Adrian Rose - Nothing But Pearls

As soothing as a smooth flowing river, and as seductive as can possibly beimagined. The new release from Adrian Rose will transport you back to the time when orchestras and torch singers were the norm. Her flawless vocal style mixed with sweet jazz passion combine to generate a true ambience of classic, and classy Jazz. The CD seems to have a natural flow that I was convinced passed by the way side.

Many of the great composers are spotlighted here, Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, and Jimmie Davis to name a few. Adrian Rose has the ability to melt you with her voice alone and give each number her originality. The music itself paints the image of 1930s high society. Adrian Rose's elegant demeanor is a definite plus as it adds grandeur of the heart. The undeniable dignity Adrian Rose adds to the music captivates you, and doesn't want to let go.

Nothing But Pearls is a collection of warm and sultry sounds that would be perfect for that romantic evening or just to simply sit back and relax. The etching of soft caress could make a romantic out of your coach potato partner, a great mood setter. Titles include "Solitude", "Honey Suckle Rose" and the riveting " Crazy He Calls Me". A soft jazz that would be sure to make you stop and take notice. If it weren't the high quality production you could swear the CD was a reissue of original material by any one of the female greats of years since past. Adrian Rose is to be commended for staying so very close to the Jazz roots.

 Scott Chasolen - Solitude speaks

This is not completely an easy listening CD , but it fits here better than on other pages . Now getting to the task at hand , The music . Chasolen has a good style of pop influenced jazz . The sound is great , Scott's vocals are good as well . This is a good CD filled with up tempo to down and in between . I was pleasantly surprised with the whole CD , the mixture of sounds is a bonus here . I was expecting something completely different after listening to the first track , because "On & On" has a complete sound of Steely Dan , but it gets better from there .

Chasolen's vocals are very smooth , They flow along with unexpected ease . The background singers do drown him out a bit , but still a great effort . Scott wears a lot of hats here , as he not only sings and plays a stunning piano , he does much more . Scott is what is known as a musician and then a songwriter and vocalist . Scott plays piano , organ , rhodes , clavinet , moog and mellotron . Scott's vocals compare to Elvis Costello (recent years) with the passion and energy that is hard to accomplish considering some of the tunes are mellow in nature , however Scott was up to the challenge .

The music is pleasant and at times tranquil , and Scott brings it home . If you are an Easy Listening fan , this CD is a must . There are so few today that fit into this category , it is a nice change . The CD is very well suited to the studio and coffee houses . I do not know about live performances here , maybe in a cabaret setting , or theater . Scott is not going to have overnight success , but so few do in this style . Scott knows the limitations of his voice and uses it to his advantage .

I cannot do more than tell you I do recommend this CD , Chasolen just has a bit more polishing to do in the studio next time around . I like this CD for easy relaxing music that begs to be heard . A good effort , next time will be better , I can tell . Visit SCOTT'S WEBSITE to find out more .

Franki Baaz - Passion Blue

A mindful insight into the soul of Franki Baaz . A blend of laid back pop and easy listening music with sultry vocals entwined . Franki does all the female vocals , lead and backing , herself . Her band consists of Mark Akita - Keyboards , James Lee - Guitars (electric & acoustic) , Michael Davila - Electric Bass , Karl K "The bass player" - Standup Bass , and Marcus Boeltz playing all the drums . Additional background vocals performed by Grayson Wray . The project is also produced by Wray & Baaz , except "It's You and I"  and  "Why" which are produced solely by Baaz .

The style of the album is self evident here , a laid back and mainly acoustic set that transports you to another dimension . If what you are looking for is a CD to relax you and leave you with that kind of warm and fuzzy feeling , you may have found it right here . The album at times seems to travel in the direction of Sarah McLaughlin or even Enya .

The flair of musical styles can sometimes almost sound as if they have an East Indian flavor . While sliding so easily from one track into the next as the style and tempo rarely changes . The only exception there would be "Let Me" which is as close to an upbeat number as you will find here .

The production is tight and the sound has a style of it's own . If it's a mellow , almost spiritual journey into the unknown you are looking for , it's here on "Passion Blue" . This CD is getting airplay on radio stations around the world , but it is not for the masses . That doesn't make it not good , just unmarketable to some demographics . A good release for what it is trying to do (which at times escapes me ) . I have given up trying to figure it out , but the vision is heartfelt and true from Baaz . "Passion Blue" by Franki Baaz is just that , a musical and lyrical passion which will feel at home on easy listening stations , in coffee houses , and smaller intimate settings .

Pamela Richardson - Spaghetti Midwestern

Beginning with "Wingtips", this EP by Chicago based folkster Pamela Richardson you are immediately introduced by beautiful flute in Ian Anderson style. The EP is for sure a folk recording with essence of roots music brought alive by the beautiful alto voice projected by Richardson. You can hear wonderful '60s melodies and harmony in "Through The Window". The complete package offered by Pamela has only one main drawback, it needs to be longer!

You can hear many influences in the voice and style of the talented singer/ songwriter. Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez and "Mama" Cass Elliot to name but a few. The beautiful musical landscape transcends you through time and space as you are drawn in to the stunning performance and the depth of the songwriting. After just one listen it is obvious that Pamela Richardson may evoke thoughts of folk music past, but she does it with her own flair and style.

Genie - Wildflowers

A voice that can calm the troubled spirit, that's the first thought when hearing Genie Nilsson's (Known musically simply as Genie) new CD Wildflowers. True life journeys of the soul is what abound from the gentle heartfelt voice, beautiful piano (Steinway), and marvelous orchestration from husband Troy. If you are down, or need to relax, this new CD can do both for you as it reflects the true heart of a life survivor.

Genie has the ability to sooth while yet she is tormented by physical ailments that may not make the rest of the world grateful. Genie suffers from debilitating migraine headaches, endometriosis, and an auto-immune disorder that causes constant terrible joint and muscle pain. Next to all this Genie has made a decision to take the problems of the heart and spirit head on with her music and has done so beautifully on Wildflowers.

The complete difference is made when you visit the website (click on the CD cover above) and find the music can be available for only a donation. In a world where the price of the CD has soared, except with major label Christmas sales planned, Genie offers her unique brand of music for nothing but a donation. Songs and stories evoking the spiritual and heartening journeys of one individual, that can make a difference in the hearts of many.

Genie offers a unique enlightenment, reminiscent at times of the powerful early recordings of Joni Earickson Tada. Not only can the voice sooth, the instrumentation between her and Troy make an aurally pleasant experience. The best of the disk being "Wildflowers (for Grandmother)", "Undying Love (for Mom and Dad)", and "I'll Always Love You" as well as the second version of instrumental tracks, perfect for relaxation and meditation.

Mellani Day - Shy To Sure

The mere fact this is a debut EP is enough to make you wonder. Melanie Day has more talent than some seasoned professionals. Her songwriting has a solid air that generates a smooth flow on the three tracks offered here. The vocals are sultry and sexy as Mellani Day wraps herself around each track. The light sounds are a blend of smooth jazz and blues that captures your attention from the start.

The elegance of style and grace prove that Mellani Day is in this game to stay, and she should have no trouble whatever gathering a following. The tracks are well written and arranged beautifully to create a seasoned jazz sound. The lyrics are pure blues, as is the guitar work of John Pakalenka on "Losin' ". The piano and sax are compelling, they add a great deal to Shy To Sure. Check out Mellani's website for ordering information of the 3 song EP. Three memorable tracks that are repeated as instrumental accompaniment cuts

Robert Kramer - Live At Fitzgeralds

It's not everyday you hear a voice that could sooth a crying child, or mixed with a certain atmosphere, makes the ladies weak. That is however the voice of Robert Kramer's New CD. A jazzy performance merging at times with some mellow blues. Robert has in the past has played in many outfits from rock, to jazz, and new age. Knowing that helps to truly feel the passion Robert Kramer adds to every note.

A smooth relaxing 6 song EP, Live At Fitgeralds showcases the talent of Kramer with an almost flawless live performance. The EP opens with a groove laden track "No Luck At All" that not only has a strong sound, it is also blended with a sense of humor. Great cocktail hour music as it has the swing that lets you unwind after a hard day and is not obtrusive. The entire EP has a subtle charm, however the biggest standout here is his incredible reworking of Sting's "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free". You can purchase some Robert Kramer music at CDBaby.

Lo Bakin Jemkis - Cool Composed..........

From Ontario, Canada, Lo Bakin Jemkis does it all himself. Sometimes when you hear that you may feel the artist has a huge ego, but other times they simply don't want to trust their music and recording to the hands of others. I believe the latter is the case with this talented guitar craftsman. Although you may not instantly place Lo Bakin' Jemkis into the easy listening category, with the boundary crossing music here he simply can't be placed elsewhere.

The music in itself is cool, relaxed and fresh with instrumental arrangements that could be called experimental, new age and stylish. Bringing forward the laid back sounds of wonderful acoustic guitar work with a flattering background soundtrack. Shades of Mark Knopfler and Roger Waters. The CD is enjoyable enough while it may have a great sound, I cannot picture myself listening for long periods of time.

There is a great flow to this disk as it can ease you in, bring you to a pseudo climax, and then gently bring you out again. I will recommend this CD to all who enjoy relaxing guitar work, at the same time it may not be the greatest thing to listen to if you are tired and simply must stay awake. A good CD all in all, fresh and enjoyable!
