Nashville Star season 2

This year we have a new batch of hopefuls. Who will be going home with the recording contract from Sony Music Nashville this year ?

Being a huge music fan myself, I have tried to watch a lot of the "reality" shows
that say they are bringing you the best of the best. Nashville Star is the
only reality show in my opinion that actually showcases "real" talent. The
contestants get to perform their original material as well.

Already a page devoted to George Canyon, click the link beside his photo.
If you are a publicist or family ,member of any other contestants, feel free to
email me and we can get a page started for your favorite contestant as well.

Click on the contestants pictures to go to their official websites.

This year I am thankful however that host Nancy O'Dell didn't wear
beige again. I don't know if I like the judges this year as well
as last year, but that is not for me to say. Good luck to all the contestants.

Annessa Andrews

Anessa Andrews - I found her initial performance a bit weak,
but she may have enough to make it into the house from viewers
voting.

Austin Hanks

Austin Hanks - I love the rockin' country style. The problem
is that we saw Travis Howard depart early last year doing
the same style, I hope history doesn't repeat itself this
year. A good stage presence and a memorable performance of
Two More Bottles of Wine.

Brad Cotter

Brad Cotter - The looks of Darryl Worley can't hurt, but Brad
had an amazing performance with A Little Past Little Rock.
Should be able to hang around the "House" in Nashville.

"I can't recall if it was him or the other guy I voted for last week,
but I'm really glad it was him that won through.   He's definitely
someone I'd turn the radio up for. "- Serenity Blue

Brad Cotter has the chiseled good looks that I expect they are searching for
This year, and after this weeks performance I really think the viewers made the right
choice as he made me want to hear more from him, and Last week I really
didn't care if I did. A good performance of "Who wouldn't want to be me". - Rikk

George CanyonSeason 2 Runner-Up..... George Canyon takes second spot on May 1st 2004

George Canyon - Nova Scotia, Canada artist proves he has
the desire and the talent to be in the final group of
contestants.

Click Here to see a page devoted to George Canyon,
and here a clip of his new single in Canada. Good Day
To Ride

"Another song I really love and he definitely did it justice.   Just as Gregory
probably suffered from not 'fitting' the mold, he may suffer from fitting the
mold just a little too well.  Still,  'Buzz' or 'Marlboro Man' either way I hope
to see a lot more of him." - Serenity Blue

"  We all love this fellow...he is such a down to earth man who seems so
obviously to love what he is doing...he becomes so 'Alive" on stage and
although he maintains that humble manner, you can just feel the music flowing
thru him...you can almost see his kind heart and feel the warmth and love
he feels for those around him.  No matter what, we will always love
and admire this strong individual and listen to his gifted voice.

All those who love George Canyon inside and outside of his native Nova
Scotia"
  - Cheryl L.

"George Canyon has a smooth delivery and a depth to his voice that makes
listening to him a pleasure." - SanDiegoViewer

George had it all again this week. While chatting on the net I found some folks
Claimed they wouldn't vote for him because he is a Canadian, and others were saying
they would vote for Mal because he was Irish! I truly don't give a hoot who they are
or where they are from, as long as they can perform and sing, and this cat has it all
right now. My vote is with him, for now after only 2 weeks, remember anything can
happen! - Rikk

                                        Gregory Delang

Gregory Delang - I found Gregory's first impression on me was not
that favorable. I can't help wondering if this is a bit too much for
her emotionally at this time. A voice that is a touch of K.T. Oslin
and Lucinda Williams.

Jennifer Hicks

Jennifer Hicks - Her eyes kind of threw me for a loop, but can
having looks comparable to Crystal Gayle really be a bad thing ?
An honest voice and a great performance with her rendition of
Jolene.

"She's a little too much like the top female stars on country radio right now, but,
I like her anyway.  - Serenity Blue

I really can't believe I agree with Tracy G. as I did so little of it last year, except
when it came to Buddy Jewell of course. But this girl has an almost child-like innocence
that I really love. She has such a simple and small voice that really draws me in. Some
folks don't like this comment but I will use it again anyway..... She has Crystal
Gayle's looks with the voice of a young Dolly Parton, just more modern sounding - Rikk

Brent Keith

Brent Keith - A beautiful voice, sounding a bit like John Berry.
Watch out Brent, I think they're going to make you cut your hair.

"David Cassidy should have been so lucky in the talent department.   He's
good...he's cute...he's personable.   So why don't I like him more than I do?"
- Serenity Blue

Here is one of the 2 places I know I will make some enemies. I really don't
personally like the talent or style set forth by Brent. I know all thye ladies will love
his pretty boy looks, and he could probably sell a ton of records on that alone,
but I feel that his sound is weaker than most that are left.

Brent Keith eliminated april 10 2004

  Lance Miller

Lance Miller - George Jones and Jesus is a pure country music
hit ! A wonderful song !

"Nervous or not, he's good!   Great song choice.   Great voice.
On his way to being my second fave." - Serenity Blue

"Chastity"? Oh well, I do have to say he took the Silver Fox and paid
him justice while making "Behind Closed Doors" a classic all over again. This
kid has true country roots, and he can sing, and write, lets see what else
he can do, aren't they going to the rodeo for a bit of next weeks show? - Rikk

eliminated april 24th 2004

        Laura Sullivan

Laura Sullivan - A performance that I found to be good,
worthy of the title of Nashville Star ? I'll have to wait and
see what happens over the next few weeks.

eliminated March 13 2004

Mal Rogers

Mal Rogers - A good performance, I am however not sure that
just sounding like a number of American country artists makes
you deserving to stick around for long.

"I don't hate you for your comments, but I don't agree with you either.  The song
tonight wasn't necessarily the best choice but I still liked Mal.   The Irish accent
lends something to his voice that will make it stand out on the radio.  I do hope
he loses the hat though.   I liked the 'Mallet'.  It works on him." - Serenity Blue

This is where I make the rest of my enemies. I don't think there is room in Nashville
Star for a karaoke singer. I mean I have received so many albums by real artists that
Nashville has left out, I really think it is going to take more than an Irishman and
his accent to win this competition. I think when everything steps up a notch
with originals we may see the last of Mal. Bare in mind this, I have been known to eat
my words before, but time will tell. - Rikk

Marty Slayton

Marty Slayton - A backup singer presently, I will tell you Marty,
I'd pay to see you perform.

"One of my fave songs, and she did good with it, but she's not quite there.
Yeah.. she needs to embrace the limelight if she wants to do more than
sing backup."- Serenity Blue

I really really like this girls voice. She can sing as good as anyone. The main
problem is I feel she has to come out form the shadows and the darkness. You
are not in a contest for backup singers! Let some personality flow, and on the
female side you will give Stacie a run for her money, and the rest of the guys for
that matter. - Rikk

Matt LindahlMatt Lindahl, third overall as revealed on May 1st........

Matt Lindahl - From the opening show, I was really hoping Matt
would be one of the contestants chosen, as he is not only talented,
but should add a very fun quality to the show and help keep the
mood at the house light and cheerful. His rendition of Folsom
Prison Blues was bright an refreshing.

" My personal fave (and not just cause he's a Georgia boy) so far and
the song was a great pick for him I think.   Unique.  Honest.  Real.   I want
to see him win.  Him or Greg and we know she ain't getting it." - Serenity Blue

"Matt Lindahl enjoys what he does and it shows. He brings a smile to every
performance that makes you want to smile along with him." - SanDiegoViewer

"I agree about the Judges this year. I miss Robert and his personality.

I grew up listening to the greatest of greats from the Ryman backstage
every weekend with my grandparents. My aunt was Patsy Cline's friend
and hairdresser....... which leads me to the comment that Tracy Gershon
made to Matt Lindahl Saturday night.... " We need more Characters in
Country Music like you ....... " but  I want to point out this if I may.
I do not think I am totally alone in missing the Grand Pa Jones, Stringbean,
Minnie Pearl ...... if she wants to refer to them as Characters but they
added a tradition for a longevity that this generation is missing...But,
Matt Lindahl can ' sing '.  I totally enjoy watching him, and see his eyes
sparkle and he makes me have fun and I throughly enjoy him ! He makes
me laugh, have fun and he entertains me !  Plus, Matt Lindahl  ... you do
have a good voice !  Go Matt................ Callie             You're in the top 3 !" - Callie

This guy is going to be around the show for a while yet! He has charisma,
character, and singing this song straight as anyone, even in his rhinestone studded
Dickies overalls, he showed me he is not just a funny guy. I like him and am looking
forward to hearing more from this charismatic performer. - Rikk

Rachel Williams

Rachel Williams - The baby of the group at 18 yrs. old, I really
wasn't expecting that incredibly powerful voice to come
out of that little frame. Looking forward to more.

eliminated March 13 2004

Sheila Marshall

Sheila Marshall - I think her voice was strong, but I found
her more of a rock singer in the vein of Mellissa Etheridge
rather than a country performer.

"There's nothing wrong with a little rock in my country and vice versa
has always been my take.  She'll fit right in with the Montgomery Gentry(s)
of country music.  And the song choice...Perfect! Probably the best match up of
song and talent all night.  Or maybe the second best.   Big Ups to her too
for correcting the Warren Brother for thinking 'Who's Cheating Who' is only an Alan
Jackson song." - Serenity Blue

"Sheila Marshall brings a unique energy to the stage that is reminiscent of
the super charged Texans so popular in that state." - SanDiegoViewer

A couple of my favorite songs are Todd Snider's "Country When It Rocks" and
Travis Tritt's "Put Some Drive In Your Country". Thats all well and
good, except they are looking for a Nashville Star here, and I really haven't heard
anything from this gal yet that says country to me. I would buy her albums, yeah! I
also really like Melissa Etheridge and Sass Jordan, but they don't claim to be
country. Show me you've got it in ya, and I'll gladly give you the benefit of
the doubt! - Rikk

Stacie Michelle

Stacie Michelle - A wonderful treat and a great rendition
of Me And Bobby McGee. I am not sure if the mainstream is ready
for her yet, but with the rising popularity in the alt. country
sound, she definitely would be able to sell a bunch of records.

"Definitely a powerhouse!  And while it's still to early to tell I can
easily see her winning the whole shebang. And I'm changing my signature
..."I am what I am.  I do what I do."  Well said. - Serenity Blue

This girl made a believer out of me this week. As much as I like other contestants
in the competition, I have a sneaky suspicion that  miss Stacie is going to be one
to beat. Wow!! I like her, a Lot! - Rikk

I'm a little disappointed with the field of contestants this year.  All of
the contestants have adequate talent (or they would not be on the show) but
none make me want to go out and buy their music - at least not at this
point.  I keep watching the show hoping that at least ONE contestant will
stand out from the pack and really shine (much like Buddy Jewell did last
season).   We'll see if this happens on future episodes - it's a long way
from being over!  - JustMe5

I am hardly an "expert" i just know what i like to hear on the radio. I had
my favorites from the show, but to be fair went to the websites of each to hear
their own music and here are my comments about my original favorites. my #1
pick from last nights show was George, Great on stage, a nice look, and a
powerful voice, reminds me of my all time favorite George Strait. Then i went to
his site, and i wasnt as impressed after listening to his own music, but i would
still enjoy hearing him on the radio! great voice, my originial #3 pick was
Lance MIller, i wasnt fully impressed with him on the show, but he had such an
awesome voice, so on his site, i listened to the 3 choice, and He has now won
my vote for #1, he is great, strong voice, great performer and great songs! I
would buy his cd's in a second.

Okay #2 was Brad Cotter, he is cute, gotta give him that, and has a great
voice, he almost wowed me on the show, had i not heard George, I couldnt gather
much from his website, with the 30 second clips he offers, so i am putting him
#3 now. until further review..lol

I am not impressed with any of the women on the show, none stand out, they
all sound like every other woman on the radio, there is no Star quality voice
that just says I will be bigger than Martina.

As for the obvious fan fave Matt, i just think he is too much of a gimmick,
his songs on his website remind me of songs from my dads 1950's collection, not
a bad thing, just not a headliner act.

well thats just my humble opinion, as little as it means
Thanks - Lin

There were  a few artists that didn't make it in "NSII" I am going to list

Some a bit later, some food for thought, and maybe they should have, maybe not!
