RIKKS DVD Review of  ACACIA!

Looking past the thin dialogue and less than stellar performances by some of the actors, ACACIA is one of those movies you will still be drawn back into. The beginning of the movie moves along extremely slowly, that is until you realize later on in the movie you needed all this information. The last 40 minutes of ACACIA are creepy as hell!

A couple adopt a young boy, and for whatever reasons, the boy is drawn in by a tree. When the mother gets pregnant for real, the boy begins to feel slighted, and that really picks up speed as the story progresses. There are times ACACIA seems a bit confusing, they don't always let you know they made a virtual time leap, so we don't always know how much time passes from scene to scene, but for the most part, ACACIA works.

Trying to figure ACACIA out as you go along will keep you guessing. There are times you will change your guess to another character, but the bottom line is this, if you watch the movie alone, late at night, you will be too disturbed to sleep. If you don't like subtitles, all Tartan's video's may not suit you, however, I would rather read subtitles than the cheap overdubbing done by other companies.

The Iron Man Cometh!

In Stores June 28th

"As surreally weird as Eraserhead and as intense as a novocain-less tooth extraction."

— Richard Harrington, Washington Post

"Hyperkinetic."

Stephen Holden, New York Times

"Gorgeously deranged cinema."

William Gibson, author and the "father of cyber-punk fiction"

From director Shinya Tsukamoto (Vital, A Snake of June) – whose stylistic and explosive science-fiction cinema has been likened to the work of David Lynch and David Cronenberg – comes the re-release of Tetsuo: The Iron Man, the film that caused a cyber-cult sensation. A cinematic showcase like you’ve never experienced – with digitally enhanced sound, all-new special features and special slipcase packaging – Tetsuo: The Iron Man will be in stores June 28th on Tartan Video’s Asia Extreme label.

Somewhere between a modern-day nightmare and a techno-fetishist's ultimate fantasy, a young man gradually mutates into a metal being. A surreal black-and-white journey into a dark and disturbing world where self-inflicted body transformations and post-human women form the fabric of a strange new reality, Tetsuo: The Iron Man molds explosive violence, bizarre sexual imagery and jet-black humor. 2005 is quickly turning into Shinya Tsukamoto’s breakout year in the U.S. Known to fans as the ultimate cyber-punk director, his voyeuristic tale A Snake of June recently hit DVD shelves. In addition to the re-release of Tetsuo: The Iron Man, Tartan Video also plans to re-release Tetsuo II: Body Hammer and Tokyo Fist, both with all-new enhanced presentations and special features.

There is a special edition DVD set - Limited to 2000 Copies - Which features the Movie as well as CD with Music inspired by the film. The special edition DVDs are only available @ FYE.com or Wherehouse.com
