The Kentucky Headhunters - Big Boss Man

The Kentucky Headhunters do for the single "Big Boss Man" what George Thorogood did for "Who Do You Love" and then some.......

The country music community first got a glimpse of The Kentucky Headhunters when their single "Dumas Walker" soared up the charts in 1989/90. This was just an introduction, but the CD Pickin' On Nashville also showed the Kentucky Headhunters fun-loving side. The band have always loved to record their take on some of Country Music's most classic songs, and on Big Boss Man, The Kentucky Headhunters take aim at some of the best music to come out of Sony/ATV Publishing.

The Kentucky Headhunters have been playing together for 35 years,  and they never sounded better. Once again taking their mix of Southern Rock and Blues, Country, Honky Tonk and Boogie Woogie and adding it to some of the most memorable and time tested songs in popular music. From "Walkin' After Midnight", Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone" (which performance-wise may be better than the original), Roger Miller's "Chug-A-Lug", and even spicin' up Hank Williams' "Hey Good Looking" which includes some awesome honky-tonkin' piano. Big Boss Man is a CD filled from start to finish with some of the best in the Sony/ATV Rock, Pop and Country music catalogue.

Truly a fun trip as the Kentucky Headhuntes mix it up, jammin' out on the classics and showing us what the songs on this album may have sounded like if written and released today. Some may say that it is sacrilege to change the arrangement of some of these cuts, but the Kentucky Headhunters will make you think again as they deliver their take, and sometimes their take is as good if not better than the originals, at least by today's standards.

Fans of The Kentucky Headhunters don't need a reason to get Big Boss Man, they're already accustomed to the style. There's very little as far as musical diversity that isn't covered on Big Boss Man, other than classical, there are even some heavy Jazz overtones that are delivered flawlessly. You owe it to yourself to check this out, if it's your first time hearing the Kentucky Headhunters, you will probably find yourself also purchasing at the very least the bands Greatest Hits to help fill your curiosity.
