I Wish I Was Lyin'

Last year, shortly after the inception of Rikks Revues, I was introduced to a young man and a CD called "A Little At A Time" (CD review below) and I was an instant fan. Since, I have been a close follower of his career and had a chance to interview Chris Young, and now the second helping... To say I am impressed, well it would be a long way off the mark. This young man has more talent than most established country singers, and that is a stone cold fact! I Wish I Was Lyin' is not just the best independent country CD of the year, I think so far this is my pick for country CD of the year unless something else comes around the bend that totally blows me away, and to do that more than this CD has would be a hard pressed accomplishment. 

The new CD has put Chris Young in the forefront of country music, and it simply astonishes me there is no major label behind him yet, that is a matter of time in my opinion. This time around Chris Young throws the full gambit of Country Music your way, an incredibly enticing offering that includes everything from up-tempo barn-stormer to melodic ballad and some songs that will pull at every heartstring you have.... This is by far one of the very best examples of country music purity that I have EVER heard, and I've been listening to Country Music for a long while. There isn't one song included on I Wish I Was Lyin' that couldn't find a home easily on any country formatted radio station.

I guess I just thought I was amazed at Chris Young on the last album, this time he doesn't pull any punches, and has many of his contemporaries on the ropes. I have included 4 song clips after the review for you to judge for yourself, but I don't think you could ever be disappointed. Bringing his lust for life, and love of family to the vanguard, Chris Young has truly amassed a plethora of new tricks to add to his driving force. I Wish I was Lyin' shows a more polished vocalist that did his last project, and his songwriting ability has gotten much stronger as well. In short, he has found his home, and now only has to mark his territory.

Songs included here are among some of the gems of the genre, having co-written 9 of the 10 tracks is no simple task, but to have written such strong numbers, all 9 of them are simple treasures. "He's My Dad" is my favorite, and you truly feel the honesty, emotion and truth coming straight from his soul. There is the one he didn't help pen, but I think that is a winner, especially for a summer release, the up-tempo "Hell No, Heaven Yes" showed me a side of Chris Young I didn't see on the last CD, his vocal power and feeling is truly a wonderful choice of song for him. As I said all songs are winners, but pay special attention to the title song, also "Where Would I Be", "What I Wish I'd Said", and "I Know You're Out There". Simply an amazing CD and I would urge any Country Music fan to add I Wish I Was Lyin' , and his last effort A Little At A Time to your CD library, this young man is here to stay, jump in on the ground floor!

Somebody pinch me , Now , Is this 18 year old kid for real ? Let me just start off by stating , If you are a country music fan , This CD has got to be in your collection !! The first song "Only If You Want To" is catchy enough with a good hook , but this guy keeps getting better the further down the CD you travel. Excuse the enthusiasm , but with pipes like this someone should have snatched him up for a record deal by now !

It is not often that I for one get so excited about a young artist . Usually they need much more seasoning before they are truly great . So , you wonder what makes this "Kid" so special , right ! Well let me tell you , I have heard many veteran artists , not only from Nashville , but all over that could only wish they had the raw talent Chris puts through on this CD . 

To say I liked this CD would be the understatement of the millennium ! The pure and simple voice of a hardened star coming out of someone who shouldn't even have cut his teeth in the industry yet. This is an independent release that will probably be used to "sell" Chris to record companies , and believe me , I know some music professionals read these revues , and if they don't get in touch with this young man , they will have made a serious error in judgment ! 

Chris Young fires the full gambit at you with a silky smooth voice that would fall in with any country music format today . He can sing a song that's so traditional sounding "Win Some , Lose Some , Lonesome", and then hit you with the current style "That Aint Me". I was going to write a lot about Chris here , his background etc. The thing is it would have taken up too much space, Chris deserves the praise ! You've got the sound and ease of George Strait, but a fresh and natural approach without copying anyone. I was completely taken back , I had to shake my head a few times , thought it was a dream , but nope it's still as good on the sixth listen ! Way to go Chris , you'll go far !

A pure country music CD that is a must have !
