Well, one of my favorite times of Nashville Star each year is when we get to the Original Song Night ( I usually call it Originals Week, but I am not a producer, lol). This is the time that the real true STARS or ARTISTS emerge and get to show America, and the rest of the world what they are made of!! 

A Post note here, Rikks Revues is working on a contest, so keep your eye out for the Nashville Star contest... What will be offered this time around is some AUTOGRAPHED items, from past and hopefully present contestants, some of course great music CDs from the same and more! Alrighty then - to the show! This week we get to here Wynonna sing "No One Else On Earth" and a great performance from Wy as usual... and this week there is a guest judge that really does know the business inside and out ... The one and only David Foster who has worked with everyone from Alice Cooper to Chicago! As for the pre-show songwriting advice, I am sorry, but they were not all that incredible, I didn't think it was as much advice as it was all across the board PRAISE no matter what!

Jared Ashley - "If You Ain't Got a Redneck, Get You One"

Jared Ashley failed once again to impress me with a song that seemed so last summer to me. Jared Ashley must have a huge fan base, many of the same people that do work in the industry I talk to, cannot, like me figure what this young bar performer is still doing here in this competition. There are so many artists in this competition, and this song is mediocre, and so far that is all I have really gotten from Jared Ashley. I'd go to a club a listen to him for a ten dollar cover charge, but I would NOT buy a concert ticket.

Phil: I think it's a good rocking song. You always deliver.

Anastasia: I am stunned that you are here and one of them are going home

David Foster:  it was like the band was groovin' and you were a little ahead of them.

Chris Young - "Drinking Me Lonely Tonight"

Quote "This is a song I wrote with my friend Larry Wayne Clark"

Chris Young has completely blown away the competition. If any other hopeful comes even close to this song tonight, It will HAVE to be an astonishing song. I would buy Chris Young's album based on this song alone. WOW!  Chris Finally gave the judges something they needed to hear, and his vocals finally got a chance to shine. I am floored, awesome, and better than 90% of the tracks already on the Country radio stations today!

Phil: I'm really proud of you.

Anastasia:  Your stock just went way up.!

David Foster:  If I were betting right now, I'd say you're gonna win this thing.

Nicole Jamrose - "The Dream's at an End"

Quote On Songwriting "... I think it's because I took such a long break... I'm just getting back into it"

Nicole completely blew it. This is a folk-rock song. Not even a good folksy song. Nicole darlin', I loved ya, but this may end up being an all male competition, unless you are lucky enough to make it through til next week! If you do, you better give the home audience and the judges something more. This may be the worst original tune I have heard since Brandi Gibson on the first season, you just cpmpletely lost me girl, help bring me back!

Phil: The song didn't have a chorus.!

Anastasia: That song was like a train of thought that never left the station!

David Foster: I couldn't get past the song. 

Matt Mason - "Here's The Key To My Heart (Come Inside)"

Matt Mason has some making up to do since last weeks performance. I just hope he can bring back some of the glory! Well, good song (Not Great) but the second best song of the night! Still looking forward to nezxt week, Matt, you were awesome in the beginning of the season, what happened ?

Phil: I think you can tell there's real emotion in what you do.

Anastasia: I see a little bit of Gary Allen and a little bit of Chris Isaacs in you.

David Foster: I thought the song was boring. Sorry.

Kristen McNamara gone....... I have to know what happened to American justice. There is NO WAY that Kristen should have the least votes, come on, after Jared's half-a$$ed Karaoke performance, Casey's fireball, and Matt's shotgun wedding gone bad? Oh well, let's hope America can really show us more on what is deserved next week......

Casey Rivers - "Good Things Gone Better"

Casey Rivers didn't have to do much to recover from last weeks great BOMB of fire, but this week did a little better, but man, this song is really almost cliché. Good job, but Casey should still be around next week. That is if justice can finally be served.

Phil: I thought the song was fun.

Anastasia: That song was ba-ba-ba-boring.

David Foster:  You get this moment, and you do an average song ?

Folks, I vote like everyone else, my final statement is this, if it is ANYONE but Jared Ashley or Nicole that goes home next week, I think we should really think again about what REAL country music is!

CHRIS YOUNG BLEW ME AWAY!!! He has a very NICE voice, well, very nice everything...but...as I was saying, VERY nice voice. LOVED, LOVED< LOVED his song!! It was good enough for me to (once again) say HE WILL WIN!! I loved BRAD COTTER on Original song night..STILL love his singing!!! The rest of the group were b..b..b..boring!!!! Rikki-You are so right on with your comments on Jared, Chris & Nicole. Kristen should still be on the show. Neither Matt or Casey impressed me at all with their originals, but their previous performances should keep them in the contest.

Rikki: I really like your re-cap format! I have been a Chris Young fan for almost three years, LOL, and he won't be 21 until June! Chris is an excellent songwriter, who has had the wisdom to seek the Best in Nashville to co-write and just to learn. He has traveled all over the country performing, but to get a REAL education, last fall he went to Texas to work in The Dance Hall. Yep, he polished those entertaining skills right up! Actually, Chris dances as well as he sings. The best thing about Chris Young, who really does want a recording contract, is that he is grounded in faith, family and friends...If Nashville is looking for a new Bad Boy (as well as he sang the song), it ain't Chris Young! Chris is just a nice guy, who treats his 8 year old and sixty-eight year old fans to as much attention as his eighteen year old fans...LOL maybe even more! Who knows how the voting on Nashville Star will turn out. I've been shocked the last two weeks...unexplainable things have already happened. But Win, Lose, or Draw, Chris Young has what it takes to be a true nashville star!

Her comments to Jared were uncalled for. While it is true that he didn't come up to the standard for a star, her comments were not constructive, but cruel and illiterate. "...one of them are leaving..." The word "one" is singular and she should have said,"...one of them is leaving..." For a professional, an expert in her field and a person in the public eye, she should take an English course.
