Already, because of his last CD release, Jake Mathews has received nominations for the Canadian Country Music Awards Rising Star award, and has a couple top 20 hits under his belt. The new CD Time After Time is sure to solidify his place in not just Canadian, but Country Music in general. This disc is as good as almost anything else offered on the market today. No stranger to country music, Canadian country star Gil Grand is the older brother of Jake.

Offering up a solid country sound that isn't peppered with pop or adult contemporary overtones, Jake Mathews has given country music fans something to enjoy. Vocally Jake Mathews holds his own with any Nashville artist, and musically Time After Time has a hint of new country mixed with a tried and true formula that should make country music purists very happy, this guy sticks to the musical roots, and has taken lessons well learned from those that have walked the dirt road before him, Jake Mathews fits the boots well.

Jake Mathews has it all here, from up-tempo crowd pleasers to the gentle love song and heartbreak. The powerful vocals of Jake Mathews are evident throughout this CD, the better examples of his range are "That's Why They Call It Cheatin' ", and "He Never Learned How". You also get the straight forward honky-tonk sound in "My Heart Won't Let You Leave My Mind" which Jake wrote with Tim Taylor. Jake Mathews has learned well what country is supposed to sound like since his debut, and I don't see him stopping soon.

Fans of the likes of Vince Gill, George Strait, and obvious influences from Strait to Haggard. Jake Mathews has made me a true believer with Time After Time. The music here has an incredible feel that should help propel Jake Mathews career in country music, not only in his native Canada. A great disc that was worth the wait.
