So, why is this recap a little later getting to you ? - I was in Canada watching with a friend, well, they showed last weeks show, and I had to rely on another friend who records EVERY show, so here is the Rikks Revues take on this weeks show.

Matt Mason - "Folsom Prison Blues"

Matt Mason, now that's more like it. This is what I've known was in you. Kudos on a great song selection. Matt Mason has a certain rebel attitude, with a little more practice, Matt could be one of the new "Outlaws" of country music. And, hey that ain't a dig, I am just saying I could see Matt opening for Shooter Jennings or Van Zant.

Phil:I think you're real.

Anastasia: that was a very smart line to walk

Patti LaBelle: I think you're cute. I just wasn't so moved

Casey Rivers - "Goodbye time"

Casey Rivers. Great song choice. This one fit you like a steak in the frying pan (Huh?)... Don't worry, that's a good thing. I think you showed your complete vocal package this time, and no matter what the outcome is, don't give up! 

Phil: You just need to stand there and sing, dude..

Anastasia: You showed your true self

Chris Young - "Dust On The Bottle"

Quote "You have to play it safe, but..... You have to do something to stand out"

Chris Young was really expected to blow everyone else away this week after his performance of "Drinking Me Lonely" last week. This was a safe song choice, but when you look it over, Matt took a bit of chance, and it paid off, I think it is more important to go with what you feel, not what you THINK the judges or public want. The songs that always get through to me first are the ones performed with true blue passion and heart. Having said that, I till don't think Chris Young will be going anywhere yet.

Phil: don't leave anything in the bag..

Anastasia:  don't jump in the pool without making a big splash next week.

Patti LaBelle:  I think you have a very rich voice, and so much substance..

Jared Ashley is the one announced by Cowboy Troy and Wynonna to have the least votes and is sent packing. I have to say, and I've said it before ... I would love to go to a Honky-Tonk and listen to Jared Ashley perform, I just really can't see (maybe just NOT YET) Jared headlining a major tour. My hat is tipped off to Jared Ashley just the same. Best of  luck Jared!

Nicole Jamrose - "Bring on the Rain"

Ummmmmm, I don't get Nicole Jamrose. I had her picked to be in the final 3 early, but the last couple of weeks have just dug her tires deeper into the mud, and there may not be a tow truck this far out. I just really wanted to hear more, Godspeed Nicole, you'll be fine!

Phil: I just think you rock.

Anastasia:..... that kind of song puts a glaring spotlight on any weaknesses you might have.

Patti LaBelle:  Girl, I would have been singing that sucker a key higher

I hate to say I called it, but Jared just didn't give it all to us. His fans keep saying he could do better, sorry folks, the time to do your best material is DURING the competition, not on the ride home. Jared will I am sure make a good living, but the record deal still seems a bit out of reach just yet! Next week, After hearing all the remaining contestants this week, I am going to say that it is going to be Nicole that goes home. I just don't get it.....

Last week, Chris Young topped them all with his original song. Then this week, every one of the guys was just amazing. Every time I heard one of them sing, I was saying, 'Man, that was good." I can't honestly say which one I liked best. However, based on pure voice/sound......Nicole Jamrose was the weakest. I think it was just a bad song choice but compared to the other performers, she should probably be the next to go. Bottom line......I'm just glad the final decision on who should win isn't up to my vote.
