One more gone, and 8 More on the way to Stardom - Nashville Star Style

Wynonna and Cowboy Troy host USA Network's Nashville Star season 4We start the second week of Nashville Star out the same way as the rest of the weeks are sure to go. We have contestants that are waiting to see if their name is called to perform, because if they don't get to perform, they are as all the Nashville Star faithful fans know - history. History here though means from the competition, that doesn't mean we won't hear from them again, the question is, who will be the next to leave Nashville?

This week's guest star as it is Redneck Revolution on Nashville Star is Gretchen Wilson - Gretchen gets to perform 2 songs through the course of the show, and the guest judge is ..... Larry "The Cable Guy" - who is obviously here to plug his new movie "Health Inspector" rather than giving the contestants any real comments on how they are doing, or how to improve.... Comic relief, but not much musical commentary or knowledge.....

Now, the names of the remaining contestants are called out one by one, and here is how their performances shaped up according to Rikks Revues, and the two valid judges on Nashville Star....

Matt Mason - Born To Boogie (Hank Williams Jr.)

Matt MasonMatt Mason obviously has a big following if you check out the net and the Nashville Star Message boards. This week Matt chose to perform Born To boogie, now he may not be Bocephus, but it is plain to see why he was voted back, maybe a bit quiet, but really does have that star potential..... so far!

Phil: You Look Like A Star

Anastasia: You're Doin' What You're Born to do.

Nicole Jamrose - Pour Me (Trick Pony)

Nicole JamroseQuote "My style changes..."

Nicole is one of the new breed of Country-femme singers, she has the old school charm mixed with a bit of that bad girl attitude. I really think she could have picked a better song for herself, good job, acceptable but could have been better.......

Phil: I Don't know if that song was your style

Anastasia: I Really Like You ... Keep The Guitar

Jared Ashley - Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy) (Big & Rich)

Jared AshleyQuote "I'm About Entertainment"

Jared Ashley is for sure a showman, and picked a good song, but it seemed vocally more like a great Karaoke performance, and that is not a jab, great performance and vocals, but needs to make the songs more his own than trying to be an artists doppelganger....

Phil: You did a good job on the song.

Anastasia: You Did Rock Tonight.

Melanie Torres - My Give A Damn's Busted (Jo Dee Messina)

Melanie TorresQuote " I Didn't move to Nashville to work in Honky-Tonks"

Melanie really seems to have her wits about her, she seems to know what she is looking for. Melanie Torres' vocals are strong, and she did an extremely good job on Jo Dee's signature.

Phil: You Light It Up!

Anastasia: Best Chick Singer In The Group This Year.

Chris Young - Drinkin' My Baby Goodbye (Charlie Daniels)

Chris YoungQuote "I Got My First Good Judge Comment"

When it comes to Chris Young, I feel his age is a point for Phil. The thing is, so far this star on the rise HAS  risen to the challenge as he has proven he can sing nearly anything. Great job on the Charlie Daniels number, a bolder choice than some of the other contestants. Looking forward to his mellower side next week, just to see where he can take us next....

Phil: More at Home Tonight ... I Believed You.

Anastasia:  I Told You To Burn That Hat .. More Relaxed.

Nashville Star Chris Young still strong, Jared Ashley leaves Nashvile Star

Casey Rivers - Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde (Travis Tritt)

Casey RiversQuote "If I plan it, that's when I'm gonna mess up"

Casey really does have a strong voice, I just didn't feel it in the early stage of his performance on week two. By the end of the Travis Tritt number, Casey really did deliver the goods vocally. I am anxious to see where we head next with Casey Rivers, I really want to hear more of his vocal strength through the entire performance.

Phil: Great Singer, I Mean Good Grief...

Anastasia: Your Vocal Chops will Keep You Around For A While.

Monique LeCompte - Guys Do It All The Time (Mindy McCready)

Monique LeCompteQuote " I Am Country!"

I think Monique really does have a great voice, but she failed to pull it off for me tonight. Maybe I was expecting a lot more, but her performance, especially her stage presence tonight, really left me flat. I was hoping to be wowed, but I feel we may have seen the last of Monique LeCompte, a week will tell the tale......

Phil: I Think You Sang Great Tonight.

Anastasia: Beautiful Voice, Performance was Just O.K.

Shy BlakemanThis week America says goodbye to the Southern Rockin' Shy Blakeman who says he was in the Audience to see Miranda Lambert perform on the first Nashville Star, and all he wanted to do was make it to the stage himself... Well done, and we may not have seen the last of Mr. Blakeman....

Kristen McNamara - Fancy (Reba McEntire)

Kristen McNamaraQuote "Throw your hair down and have a good time"

Maybe it's just me, but I kinda liked the yodeling last week, and really thought after waiting until the end to find out if she would be sticking around, Kristen really did a good job on a tough song.... Reba is not the easiest to follow vocally, but Kristen did a good job on a vocally hard song.

Phil: Most Improved For Sure This Week.

Anastasia: Never change who You Are, Just What You're Wearing.

If anyone who isn't country, it is Nicole Jamrose. I have known Nicole for over 15 years and I have heard her band Nick Danger play a couple of times and in my opinion, she is Top 40 and is a poor man's Cheryl Crow. We already have Cheryl Crow and Bonnie Rait; and we also have many who sound like her. We don't need anymore. I honestly think she is a poseur. She is too old for American Idol, and when she was in her 20s, she tried the Hollywood route, failed miserably, and gave up for awhile, (hey, I do give her some credit to pursue her dreams) If Nicole is so unique and so great, Hollywood would have signed her up instead of Cheryl Crow or Jewel. As a dare from her friend, she went to tryout for NS4. I think this is her last chance to get a record deal and she is on this show out of desperation. Then again, nothing wrong with being an opportunist. But she is definitely not a revolutionist. She is a dime a dozen. I hear many like her at coffee shops and carnivals. Now that she has made it to the show, she really tries to "country it up" and poorly attempts to make herself up like some wholesome girl from "Farmville," Indiana or tries to compare herself as if she were the modern day June Carter with her stories of traveling with bands and being the only gal. When in reality, she is a suburbanite who lives a pretty comfortable lifestyle in a pretty upscale town for Indiana. Sorry, I know it sounds like sour grapes, but I have my own success and I do VERY well. I just hate seeing phony people portraying themselves as something they are not. If Nicole Jamrose was a genuine person, I would definitely support her but she is a fake in my opinion. If she makes it, good for her. But I can see what the rest of NS4 fans don't see. She is very transparent, and she is doing a pretty good job fooling you guys. Just like Green Day is fooling the new so called generation of punkers. The old school punkers don't fall for it though. Go ask John Lydon (aka Johnny of Rotten Sex Pistols and PiL) one of the grandaddies of punk rock) what he thinks of Green Day. Have a nice day!

Well Susan- Sour Grapes??? I think you are the poseur. I have also known Nicole from 'way back' and I am wondering just what guy dumped you for a chance at her! You haven't said anything about talent, just your own opinion of who she 'wants to sound like'. Kinda like someone who wants to sound like a real reviewer when it's their own agenda they spout. Her 'hollywood' route was what alot of kids do when they have some talent and no direction. Who can begrudge a kid for being a kid? Hollywood doesn't make talent, they make deals. Well, she is a talented woman who seems to be on her way to becoming who she will be...What's your excuse, Susan? No talent? No life? Just wondering...Have a Nice Day!
