Pat Green - Lucky Ones

Well, if you know Pat Green and his brand of Texas kickin' country music, then you will know basically what to expect from Lucky Ones. No, it doesn't sound like everything he has released, but it does have the same energy we have come to know with Pat Green's music. I have been taking some time and listening to this CD and Wave On Wave lately, and as catchy as this may be, it doesn't match up with his last release. 

I have come to really enjoy Texas music, as polished as Nashville is, Texas music isn't afraid to get a little gritty, Country Music in Texas has a bite that mixes a bit of rock with it's country. Pat Green does the same here, more noticeable in some places than others. Lucky Ones, although not quite as memorable as Wave on Wave still delivers the goods for the world to hear. Pat Green has more reasons than a new CD to be happy, Lucky Ones just landed the number 6 spot on the Billboard Country music album charts, and #29 on the Billboard 200. If that's not enough the just released single is already making tracks as the #47 country single.

The thing that remains true is Pat Green's vocals, his voice is inviting and friendly. On any CD from PG , he comes across as someone you have known since grade school. The first single from Lucky Ones ("Don't Break My Heart Again")  is a good choice, a kind of an Eagles feel to it. Although "Somewhere Between Texas And Mexico" (also on the Country Charts at the same time) may have been a better choice as it is immediately likeable and has the familiar and recognizable feel. Other cuts that are deserving are the intelligent mid-tempo love song "Temporary Angel" , and "Don't Break My Heart Again" which has a feel similar to something I could hear the Eagles recording..

One song that should be a big hit, is not the best song on the CD, but Duets seem to be gaining widespread popularity again. On "College", Pat Green enlists the help of Brad Paisley on a lighthearted remember when song. "Sweet Revenge" could just as easily be a Steve Earle song than Pat Green's. OK, bottom line time.... So I said Lucky Ones didn't quite meet up to standards Wave on Wave set, I don't think every album can be the artists best, and this is NOT the very best Pat Green offering, but is still worth the price of admission.
