Ryan Shupe & the Rubberband - Dream Big

Ryan Shupe, who the heck is this guy? Well, if you know such artists/bands as Chris LeDoux, Powder Ridge, Salt Licks, Peter Breinholt and Judith Edelmanyou may have heard his instrumentation before. Somewhere around 1996 this guy who played fiddle from the age of 5 (and now plays Mandolin and Guitar), a 4th generation fiddler, began Ryan Shupe & the Rubberband. The Rubberband includes Roger Archibald, Bart Olson, Colin Botts and Craig Miner. Now, from a young guy who names influences like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Lyle Lovett, Tom Petty, Dave Matthews Band, Bela Fleck and AC/DC as his influences, what can we expect, and what does Dream Big have to offer, well read on grasshopper, you ain't heard nothin' yet!

Blending a mixture of straight ahead country, Americana, bluegrass, and rock influences, Ryan Shupe & The Rubberband offer up one of the unexpected hits of 2005. The CD is not without flaws, but for a debut CD is also not without some BIG surprises and some tracks that whether they become radio hits or not, will still become hits with new fans, and some cross-genre music lovers. Songs like the first hit, and title track "Dream Big", and others like "Even Superman", and "New Emotion" are reason enough to make this CD an addition to your music library.

Giving us some strong reasons to remember that dreaming is one of those traits that seems to have been lost with time. Ryan Shupe & The Rubberband remind us that when it comes to dreaming, the biggest dreams may just be the ones that do come true. Whether it is for our future, the present, or our welfare, dreams matter folks, let's not forget that. That may be the theme over the entire record, but we also get a few other visions...... Don't hold up any one person to high, because even the biggest can fall ("Even Superman"). The music on Dream Big can range from inspiring to compelling at it's highest points. Maybe not the "Record of the Year", but still a damn good introduction to a young band that I sincerely doubt we have heard the last of!
